The Sofoline interchange is a flyover at Kwadaso municipality in the Ashanti Region. There was a massive joy to the people of Kumasi especially those who ply the road after the construction of the interchange.
Before then, from Bekwai Roundabout to Kwadaso area which Sofoline was in between was extremely dusty, residents and drivers operating in that route complained bitterly about how dusty the environment in that area was and how it was affecting their lives and businesses.
The Sofoline interchange forms part of the Kumasi-Sunyani road and the construction of the Interchange is a blessing in the sense that it is going to reduce congestion in the Sofoline area while its underpass is to save people and pedestrians from having to cross the entire road to get to the other side. It’s a time-saving project since people who are going to use the underpass will get to their destinations faster and easily.
At first, a look inside the underpass will bring joy to your heart because the place has been beautified with historic pictures of some important personalities in Ghana like the Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II, former president Jerry John Rawlings, Former president John Agyekum Kuffour, former president John Dramani Mahama and current president Nana Addo Dankwah Akoffu Addo including some celebrities like Nana Ama Mcbrown.
Surprisingly, a visit to the place by Silver FM’s Akwadaa Nyame during his normal report at the Oman ba pa program hosted by Kwabena Ampratwum indicates that despite the pleasing looks of the underpass people have managed to turn the place into a dumping site with trash being dumped over the entire place.
The scene is both shocking and disgusting. You might ask yourself who is to be blamed for this. Government or the People?. Speaking to some Drivers and traders who trade around the Interchange said, those who uses the under pass throw the refuse inside. Mr Abanga Simon, a cement seller said, he used to sweep inside the footbridge everyday but yet the place keep on been dirty because of some bad attitude by the users. Another trader also blame the city authority for not doing their work for taking the refuse container in the area on time which later spread around when ever the win blow.
