Two police persnnels and two community police at the Tafo/Pankrono divisional police headquarters has been accused of beating up a 35 year old man Kofi Poku alias Hasco and has arrested nine people.
This incident happened today Sunday 7th July 2019 about 11:30 am.An eyewitness Akwasi Adu Boahen told Silver FM’s Akwadaa Nyame that,
Police claim that, the victim, now a deceased committed a traffic offence and was ask to stop but refused and decided to run away with his pick-up vehicle with registration number GP-3461.
He explained that, the two community police officers chased the victim now deceased from Moro market to Tafo miles ‘3’ and beat him up with sticks and later called the two police officers after the deceased decided to escaped but was arrested again with the help of the two police personnels. The two officers including the community police officers beat him until he became unconscious.
He was then send to Tafo government hospital when they realized he could no longer breath and later refered him to Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The body has since been sent to Komfo Anokye hospital morgue.
The Youth in the Tafo/Pankrono decided to fight the police patrol team who was sent to the scene but the police arrested nine of protestors.
The Assembly member of the area, Hon Bashiru Mohammed Gambo in an interview said, the deceased who has lived in the area for his whole life was not a bad person. He said, he is very disappointed in the police since the station officer, Mr Koomson has refused to explained what actually happened. “I am very disappointed in the Tafo/Pankrono police command especially the station officer, he has refused to talk to me, I will make sure he is transferred from here because he don’t know his duty this is not the first time such incident is happening since he came here” he said.
The mother of the deceased, Nana Akua who couldn’t hide her tears said, he would not leave and rest until Justice is prevailed.
