There is a violent clash between two factions (Dagomba’s and Samba) tribe at Damgombaline a suburb of Asawasi in the Asokore Mampong Munincipality in Ashanti Region.
At least nine people have severely sustained wounds with the exchange of machetes and guns. They have been sent to the Manhyia Government Hospital for treatment. Some buildings, as well as a wooden structures have been burnt to ashes.
One of the victims from the camp of Dagomba’s by name “Alaye” told Silver FM’s Akwadaa Nyame that, the attack was triggered by a certain man by name Mallam Abdul Rahman who claimed that the land that they (Dagomba’s) occupied belongs to him and decided to pull down their properties. That was fiercely resisted by the residents of the Dagombaline leading to the pelting of stones and sticks which could be described as a free for all fight among the two tribes.
A police team was later called in to restore calm but was was also caught in the cross-fire as the officers received their share of the stones throwned by the residents. When the police realized they can not stand the wrath of the Aggrieved residents immediately left the scene while the youth set some houses and structures ablaze, destroying properties worth thousands of cedis.
Some residents have also started fleeing the area for fear of reprisals. Robbers has taken the fight as an opportunity to steal from the victims when they were on the run.
Ghana national fire service and NADMO came to the scene to quench the fire.The Ashanti regional security service has warned them to exercise restraint if they don’t want to be impose on curfew.
