Two people have been wounded after supporters of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) clashed at the ongoing limited voter registration exercise at the Asawase Constituency in the Ashanti Region.
Properties including cars and motors were destroyed while wind-screens smashed during the clashed.
The injured persons were then rushed to the Manhyia government hospital for treatment.
Zeinab Jibril, alias Canadian woman, one of the injured person alleged that the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase constituency, Muntaka Mubarak slapped her twice.
Speaking to the media, Zienab accused the Member of Parliament for Asawasi constituency for assaulting her after she removed a veil that had been used to cover the face of a lady whom she think was not eligible to register had been brought to the registration centre by the MP. The victim also alleged that the MP claimed to have evidence to prove that the NPP was registering some people at night at the office of the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly which according to her is untrue.
Another victim, Sadat Abubakar also sustain some severe injured during the clash.
Speaking to Silver FM’s Akwadaa Nyame at Manhyia government hospital,he said, upon seeing his sister been beaten by the MP, he decided to rescued her but unfortunately for him, someone from behind attacked him and chopped off his left ear.
The situation degenerated into a free-for-all brawl as supporters of the two parties hurled stones and other missiles at each other amidst fisticuffs.
Personnel from the Ghana Police Service were deployed to the scene to maintain peace and order.
Sadat continued that, similar incident occurred at the same centre.
