A 60 year old KVIP toilet facility at Esaase near Akropong in the Owabi electoral area, a community near Owabi Dam in the Atwima Nwiabiagya South District of the Ashanti region is in a deplorable state and poses as a death trap to travelers and residents.
The toilet facility which serves as public toilet for both residents in the area and travellers was built 60 years ago.
The facility sits rightly on the opposite side of the Esaase lorry terminal.
Deep visible cracks could be seen all over the weak structure and about 12 persons made use of the facility as at the time Silver FM’s Akwadaa Nyame visited despite the bold inscription of “Danger, keep off” broadly painted on the weak walls of the structure.
The caretaker of the facility, who could be seen issuing toilet papers upon payment to users, accordingly, said she was only acting in the capacity of the Assembly member in the area.
She recounted the several times and attempts made in reporting the bad state of the toilet facility to the authorities.
Responding to the issue, the assembly member in the area said, he has wrote several letters to the District Assembly to renovate the facility or pull it down completely to avert future misfortunes. He disclosed that the toilet facility should have been in the action plans of the District Assembly but it was not captured and don’t know when the assembly will listen to their plea.
